What’s Your Longing?
I start most days spending time in my interior world. It’s where I connect with the part of me that knows I have everything I need to live the life I desire, and am the only person who knows what’s right for me. I’m reminded that my intention for 2024 is to “live in the mystery” - the dimension where I know that I’m not separate but part of something way more expansive and good and that wants to express through me.
This is also the place where I access the voice of my true self - the unconditioned part of me that knows my true desires and longings. I go through short phases where I let the demands of life take priority over spending time in my inner sanctuary and yet soon realize that without this grounding, I drift through my life instead of living it with real intention.
I’ve meditated for enough years now that I have various ways of accomplishing the difficult task of shutting off the world and accessing my inner quiet space. I’ve learned to surrender to a higher wisdom as I look for what will transport me into this sacred space. Sometimes it’s meditative music that takes me there - other times a breathing technique or centering practice. This morning, it was a poem by John O’Donohue, For Longing, in his book, To Bless the Space Between Us.
Blessed be the longing that brought you here and quickens your soul with wonder.
May you have the courage to listen to the voice of desire that disturbs you when you have settled for something safe.
May you have the wisdom to enter generously into your own unease to discover the new direction your longing wants you to take.
May the forms of your belonging - in love, creativity, and friendship - be equal to the grandeur and the call of your soul.
May the one you long for long for you.
May your dreams gradually reveal the destination of your desire.
May a secret Providence guide your thought and nurture yuur feeling.
May your mind inhabit your life with the sureness with which your body inhabits the world.
May your heart never be haunted by ghost-structures of old damage.
May you come to accept your longing as divine urgency.
May you know the urgency with which GOD longs for you.
What are you here for? What is the imprint you’re here to make? What is it the Universe wants to express through you?
If you want guidance figuring that out, schedule a discovery call with me and see if we might be able to discover that together.
