Why the Enneagram?

I first asked myself this question back in 2020 when I was enrolling in a yearlong intensive program on the Enneagram. Logic said, “You’re certified already in DiSC, Benchmarks, Leadership Circle Profile and numerous others and they’ve been effective tools in helping leaders and teams work more effectively. What’s different about this one?”

Short answer – A LOT. My introduction to the Enneagram came from clients who brought their Enneagram results into our coaching work together. The depth of the tool was quickly apparent. What I’ve learned over time in using it with multiple leaders is how it touches people in ways that open them up to new possibilities.

The Enneagram is more than an assessment that calls out our positive and not-so-positive behaviors, and how they influence how we communicate and deal with conflict. It, instead, gives us a roadmap for evolving as humans and leaders. People become more curious and less defensive about the patterns and behaviors that sabotage their effectiveness and relationships - and more willing to explore what triggers them, and why.

We all have at least one pattern or belief that holds onto us, limiting what we can achieve and who we can be. I certainly do, even after many years of immersing myself in a variety of development programs and committing to a daily practice of reflection and meditation. All have value and have served a role.

The Enneagram, however, expands and unfolds as I do, ushering me along a continual path of self-awareness and transformation. Perhaps this is due to its ancient roots and how it has continued to evolve over centuries as new applications for its usefulness are found.

If you’re ready to follow your curiosity and find answers to some of the deeper questions you’re carrying, the Enneagram may offer the roadmap you’re seeking. And if having a guide on this path of deeper self-discovery feels right for you, reach out to me for a discovery call.
