ALIGNMENT – An Inner Compass for Living

“Alignment” is an over-used word that’s challenging to understand. So why did it surface as MY word to live by for a whole year? And in 2025, a year when I need my word to have superpowers with all the surprises and disruptions the year could bring?

I’m not surprised anymore when I go into the White Stone meditation with one word, and re-surface with a different one. My mind picks the first one, my deeper self the final one.

It’s also not unusual for me to feel resistance over my word. My mind is practical, it prefers to be stretched in ways that are familiar and not too risky. But my soul is seeking that word that will challenge me in ways that bring real growth, the transformative kind.

ALIGNMENT is that word. Here’s how my favorite AI tool describes it: Alignment is about living in a way that honors one's core values. It represents a state where thoughts, choices, and actions are in harmony with one's true self, creating a sense of ease and purpose.

The Enneagram teaches that we create our personality structure to mimic or mirror our Essence, or true self. We need our personality for sure, but it’s not who and what we are. And thinking that it is causes us to lose our foundation and grounding and feel like an imposter.

The Enneagram also teaches the 3 Centers of Intelligence – body, heart and mind. When these centers are in alignment, we know who we are - and that we’re part of something bigger, something magical. Regardless of events happening around us.

Alignment is an invitation to immerse ourselves in our deeply held beliefs and values, and commit to allowing them to guide our every action, choice and decision. To inform our relationships with others and how we honor the planet.

I'm one month in to living into the word "alignment" and I already know that if I let it be my guidepost, transformative growth awaits me. Much more to share in the weeks and months ahead.
