Why I got a tattoo

In the summer of 2013, I did something that absolutely shocked my family and friends: I got a tattoo.

Some may consider it a temporary lapse in judgement, but for me, it was the opposite.  I’d never planned to get one, but saw it clearly in a meditation and knew I would follow through.  Now it serves as an important reminder and tells a story of my life.

The design is a lotus flower, with each petal sharing an encouragement of how to see the world around me.  In the center is the reminder to go within to seek wisdom, power, and clarity.  It’s a practice I use every day and has sustained me through challenges and uncertainty.  Approaching life this way has allowed me to become a more successful creator and influential leader.

So often we rely on external successes and validation.  We can instead turn inward for the fuel and guidance we’re seeking, and establish new practices for finding peace, reclaiming our confidence, and reconnecting with ourselves.
